    Description

For auction today, a beautiful and unusual vintage French Absinthe Bistro Saucer or "soucoupe," in a rare dark green rim with the price of the beverage served printed on its side, "8f" (francs), and expensive beverage.    Maker's name  distributor's and address on the obverse, DOUBLE signed, "H Benet, Rue Parmentier, Paris + Limoges.  RARE!
These serving dishes were used in French cafes during the first half of the 20th century to denote the price of the drink being served.  Saucers would pile up as the evening progressed and the check or "l'addition" grew.
This GENUINE VINTAGE soucoupe measures 5" in diameter and is about 1/2" deep.  The saucer is in excellent vintage condition with patina from actual use in a Parisian cafe.  These genuine ones are getting harder and harder to find, especially in this color and material.
    Purchased years ago in Paris.
This is a genuine soucoupe de bistrot.  In the originals, the colors and the design were used to denote different beverages.
This is not a reproduction or one that comes in sets with different colors for no purpose other than design.
This example is in superb condition, has a clear price, and an unusual colored rim.  Would make a great gift for that special Francophile!
    No chips or cracks.
    A great conversation piece!
