According to reliable numismatic sources, b
y 1894, circulating foreign coins had become so prevalent in Guatemala that on August 10, the government authorized their counter-stamping at the mint, as an official 1/2 Real of 1894, to legitimize their circulation.
All host coins were stamped in 1894.
