Description
Very nice and very rare examples of a Guatemala Spanish cob, denomination 2 reales. Guatemala cobs were minted using dies meant for the new pillar dollars, but because the Guatemala mint did not have a coin press, they used these dies to mint cobs instead. They were only minted for a few years, and are quite rare and desirable. For some example many Guatemala cobs bear holes, so perhaps many of the people who lived where these cobs were made wore them as necklaces. A rare and awesome piece of Colonial history!
